Irish Soda Bread Experience

Welcome to Ballyknocken Cookery School, set on our farm with wonderful grounds and delightful herb and vegetable gardens for a truly authentic Irish experience.

Irish soda bread is a staple of the Irish farmhouse. Growing up here at Ballyknocken Farm, Catherine and her family have seen their grandmother and mother bake daily batches of both Brown Soda Bread (wholewheat) and Raisin Soda Bread (also known as Spotted Dog!). Now we want to share this tradition with you, teaching you all the nuances to perfect this recipe and giving you the insights into the story behind this delicious fresh bread.

So pop on your apron and enjoy this real traditional Irish favourite! We can enjoy it almost from the oven, where wonderful Irish butter melts into each slice top with our homemade kitchen garden berry jam. And to perfect the experience, we simply must have the soda bread with a cup of Irish tea!

DESCRIPTION

This recipe is a family favourite passed down through the generations of home bakers at Ballyknocken Farmhouse and has been shown by Catherine on NBC Today Show and on Recipe.tv, where it has been warmly welcomed and much made in family homes around the world. Close by are Glendalough and Powerscourt Gardens if you are taking a day trip from Dublin.

Optional extra: The legend behind the Irish Coffee is a wonderful tale but making your very own and mastering the cream so that it floats on top brings joy to all who try it.
