Location offers spectacular scenery with its rolling Wicklow hills, deep valleys, lakes, domed granite mountains and a coastline of picturesque bays.

Ballyknocken Cookery School, House and Farm is situated 47 km south of Dublin, conveniently located five minutes off the N11 motorway at the Ashford exit.

We are close to the heart of the Wicklow Mountain and lies at the foot of Carrick Forest giving guests private and exclusive access to this beautiful mountain forest for hiking or biking.

Explore the many gardens of Wicklow, visit the historic and scenic 6th-century monastic settlement of Glendalough, one of Ireland’s most beautiful visitor destinations and only a 20-minute drive from Ballyknocken or enjoy Brittas Bay with its 5 miles of golden coastline, ideal for swimming.

If you want to explore further afield a day trip to Kilkenny Castle or Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre are all within easy reach. You will find Ballyknocken is perfectly located on the doorstep of Dublin – ideal for all main airports and ferry ports and also for visiting the capital city for a day trip whilst enjoying a base in the countryside, which is what real Ireland is all about.

Glendalough

For thousands of years people have been drawn to ā€˜the valley of the two lakesā€˜ for its spectacular scenery, rich history, archaeology and abundant wildlife. Glendalough is a remarkable place that will still your mind, inspire your heart and fill your soul.

The monuments and lakes are accessible all year around at any time of the day however the car parks may have the barrier down early in the morning and late in the evening. There is no charge to see the Monastic sites (churches/round tower)Ā or the Upper and Lower Lakes except the car park fees for the Upper Lake and the Visitor Centre at the Monastic Site.Ā Visitors are advised not to leave valuables in their cars, especially in the more remote locations.

Hiking & Walking

Wicklow Mountains National ParkĀ isĀ easily accessibleĀ making it the perfect destination for walking and hiking.Ā You can explore endless trails with a Wicklow Mountain walk or join routes together for a longer walking break.

Entry to Wicklow Mountains National Park and the information office are free. In Glendalough, there are twoĀ paidĀ car parks for visitors to the valley:Ā theĀ Visitor Centre car park and the Upper Lake car park.

Hiking & Walking Wicklow Ireland

Brittas Bay

Brittas Bay boasts 5km of spectacular sandy beaches on the Irish Sea coast, approx. 12 km south of Wicklow Town, and only a 25 minute drive from Ballyknocken.

It is an area of ecological importance and habitats of interest include sand dunes, ferns and grassland areas. The landscape is dominated by the dunes which cover approx.. 100 hectares.

Brittas Bay has 2 ample sized car parks and the beach has been awarded European Union (EU) ā€œBlue Flagā€ for water quality and cleanliness. It is ideal for sunbathing, surfing, swimming or walking!
